Now whenJerusalemwas capturedin the ninthyearof Zedekiahkingof Judah,in the tenthmonth,Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylonand allhis armycameto Jerusalemand laidsiegeto it;
Therefore He broughtup againstthem the kingof the Chaldeanswho slewtheir youngmenwith the swordin the houseof their sanctuary,and hadnocompassionon youngmanor virgin,oldmanor infirm;He gave[them] allinto his hand.
The wordthat cameto Jeremiahfrom the LORDin the tenthyearof Zedekiahkingof Judah,whichwas the eighteenthyearof Nebuchadnezzar.
The wordwhichcameto Jeremiahfrom the LORD,when Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylonand allhis army,with allthe kingdomsof the earththat were under his dominionand allthe peoples,were fightingagainstJerusalemand againstallits cities,saying,
Behold,I am going to command,'declaresthe LORD,'and I will bringthem backto thiscity;and they will fightagainstit and takeit and burnit with fire;and I will makethe citiesof Judaha desolationwithoutinhabitant.'"
For thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,"As My angerand wrathhave been pouredout on the inhabitantsof Jerusalem,soMy wrathwill be pouredout on you when you enterEgypt.And you will becomea curse,an objectof horror,an imprecationand a reproach;and you will seethisplacenomore."
Zedekiahwas twenty-oneyearsoldwhen he becameking,and he reignedelevenyearsin Jerusalem;and his mother'snamewas Hamutalthe daughterof Jeremiahof Libnah.
For thussaysthe LORDof hosts,"Cutdownher treesAnd castup a siegeagainstJerusalem.Thisis the cityto be punished,In whose midstthere is onlyoppression.
Now in the twelfthyearof our exile,on the fifthof the tenthmonth,the refugeesfrom Jerusalemcameto me, saying,"The cityhas been taken."
"Then getyourself an ironplateand setit up as an ironwallbetweenyou and the city,and setyour facetowardit so that it is under siege,and besiegeit. Thisis a signto the houseof Israel.
In the twenty-fifthyearof our exile,at the beginningof the year,on the tenthof the month,in the fourteenthyearafterthe citywas taken,on that samedaythe handof the LORDwas upon me and He broughtme there.
"Onethirdyou shall burnin the fireat the centerof the city,when the daysof the siegeare completed.Then you shall takeonethirdand strike[it] with the swordallaroundthe city, and onethirdyou shall scatterto the wind;and I will unsheathea swordbehindthem.
"Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,'The fastof the fourth,the fastof the fifth,the fastof the seventhand the fastof the tenth[months] will becomejoy,gladness,and cheerfulfeastsfor the houseof Judah;so lovetruthand peace.'
"The LORDwill bringyou and your king,whomyou setoveryou, to a nationwhichneitheryou noryour fathershave known,and thereyou shall serveothergods,woodand stone.
