The wordwhichcameto Jeremiahfrom the LORD,when Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylonand allhis army,with allthe kingdomsof the earththat were under his dominionand allthe peoples,were fightingagainstJerusalemand againstallits cities,saying,
"For, behold,I am callingallthe familiesof the kingdomsof the north,"declaresthe LORD;"and they will comeand they will seteachonehis throneat the entranceof the gatesof Jerusalem,and againstallits wallsroundaboutand againstallthe citiesof Judah.
"Pleaseinquireof the LORDon our behalf,for Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylonis warringagainstus; perhapsthe LORDwill dealwith us according to allHis wonderfulacts,so that [the enemy] will withdrawfrom us."

Now at that timethe armyof the kingof Babylonwas besiegingJerusalem,and Jeremiahthe prophetwas shutup in the courtof the guard,which[was in] the houseof the kingof Judah,
when the armyof the kingof Babylonwas fightingagainstJerusalemand againstallthe remainingcitiesof Judah,[that is], Lachishand Azekah,for they [alone] remainedas fortifiedcitiesamong the citiesof Judah.
Nebuchadnezzarthe kingto allthe peoples,nations,and [men of every] languagethat livein allthe earth:"May your peaceabound!
it is you, O king;for you have becomegreatand grownstrong,and your majestyhas becomegreatand reachedto the skyand your dominionto the endof the earth.
"Becauseof the grandeurwhichHe bestowedon him, allthe peoples,nationsand [men of every] languagefearedand trembledbeforehim; whomeverhe wishedhe killedand whomeverhe wishedhe sparedalive;and whomeverhe wishedhe elevatedand whomeverhe wishedhe humbled.
