"For thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,Do not let your prophetswhoare in your midstand your divinersdeceiveyou, and do not listento the dreamswhichthey dream.
Then the LORDsaidto me, "The prophetsare prophesyingfalsehoodin My name.I have neithersentthem norcommandedthem norspokento them; they are prophesyingto you a false vision,divination,futilityand the deceptionof their own minds.
Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,"Do not listento the wordsof the prophetswho are prophesyingto you. They are leadingyou into futility;They speaka visionof their own imagination,Not from the mouthof the LORD.
"I did not send[these] prophets,But they ran.I did not speakto them, But they prophesied.
"I have heardwhatthe prophetshave saidwho prophesyfalselyin My name,saying,'I hada dream,I hada dream!'
who intendto make My peopleforgetMy nameby their dreamswhichthey relateto oneanother,justas their fathersforgotMy namebecause of Baal?
"But as for you, do not listento your prophets,your diviners,your dreamers,your soothsayersor your sorcererswhospeakto you, saying,'You will not servethe kingof Babylon.'
Then Jeremiahthe prophetsaidto Hananiahthe prophet,"Listennow,Hananiah,the LORDhas not sentyou, and you have made thispeopletrustin a lie.
Now theseare the wordsof the letterwhichJeremiahthe prophetsentfrom Jerusalemto the restof the eldersof the exile,the priests,the prophetsand allthe peoplewhomNebuchadnezzarhad takeninto exilefrom Jerusalemto Babylon.
"Becauseyou have said,'The LORDhas raisedup prophetsfor us in Babylon'--
"Thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,concerningAhabthe sonof Kolaiahand concerningZedekiahthe sonof Maaseiah,who are prophesyingto you falselyin My name,'Behold,I will deliverthem into the handof Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylon,and he will slaythem before your eyes.
becausethey have actedfoolishlyin Israel,and have committedadulterywith their neighbors'wivesand have spokenwordsin My namefalsely,whichI did not commandthem; and I am He who knowsand am a witness,"declaresthe LORD.'"
"Thussaysthe LORD,Do not deceiveyourselves,saying,"The Chaldeanswill surelygoaway from us," for they will not go.
The prophetsprophesyfalsely,And the priestsruleon their [own] authority;And My peopleloveit so!But whatwill you doat the endof it?
Your prophetshave seenfor you false and foolish[visions]; And they have not exposedyour iniquitySo as to restoreyou from captivity,But they have seenfor you false and misleadingoracles.
"They seefalsehoodand lyingdivinationwho are saying,'The LORDdeclares,'when the LORDhas not sentthem; yet they hopefor the fulfillmentof [their] word.
"Ifa manwalkingafter windand falsehoodHad toldlies[and said], 'I will speakout to you concerning wineand liquor,'He would be spokesmanto thispeople.
"Also it will comeabout in that daythat the prophetswill eachbe ashamedof his visionwhen he prophesies,and they will not puton a hairyrobein orderto deceive;
"For false Christsand false prophetswill ariseand will showgreatsignsand wonders,soas to mislead,ifpossible,eventhe elect.
And He said,"Seeto it that you are not misled;for manywill comein My name,saying,I am[He],' and, 'The timeis near.'Do not goafterthem.
"Woe[to you] whenallmenspeakwellof you, for their fathersused to treatthe false prophetsin the sameway.
For such menare slaves,not of our LordChristbut of their ownappetites;and by their smoothand flattering speechthey deceivethe heartsof the unsuspecting.
As a result,we are no longerto be children,tossed here and there by wavesand carried aboutby everywindof doctrine,by the trickeryof men,by craftinessin deceitfulscheming;
Let no onedeceiveyou with emptywords,for becauseof these thingsthe wrathof Godcomesupon the sonsof disobedience.
Let noonein anywaydeceiveyou, for [it will not come] unlessthe apostasycomesfirst,and the manof lawlessnessis revealed,the sonof destruction,
But evilmenand impostorswill proceed[from bad] to worse,deceivingand being deceived.
Beloved,do not believeeveryspirit,but testthe spiritsto see whetherthey are from God,becausemanyfalse prophetshave goneout into the world.
And he deceivesthosewho dwellon the earthbecauseof the signswhichit was givenhim to performin the presenceof the beast,tellingthosewho dwellon the earthto makean imageto the beastwhohadthe woundof the swordand has come to life.
And the beastwas seized,and with him the false prophetwho performedthe signsin his presence,by whichhe deceivedthosewho had receivedthe markof the beastand thosewho worshipedhis image;thesetwowere thrownaliveinto the lakeof firewhich burnswith brimstone.
