Then it becomes[something] for a manto burn,so he takesone of them and warmshimself; he alsomakesa fireto bakebread.He alsomakesa godand worshipsit; he makesit a gravenimageand fallsdownbefore it.
Now afterAmaziahcamefrom slaughteringthe Edomites,he broughtthe godsof the sonsof Seir,setthem up as his gods,boweddownbeforethem and burnedincenseto them.
Their landhas also been filledwith idols;They worshipthe workof their hands,That whichtheir fingershave made.
Whohas fashioneda godor castan idolto noprofit?
Surely he cutscedarsfor himself, and takesa cypressor an oakand raises[it] for himself among the treesof the forest.He plantsa fir,and the rainmakesit grow.
Halfof it he burnsin the fire;over[this] halfhe eatsmeatas he roastsa roastand is satisfied.He alsowarmshimself and says,"Aha!I am warm,I have seenthe fire."
But the restof it he makesinto a god,his gravenimage.He fallsdownbefore it and worships;he also praysto it and says,"Deliverme, for you are my god."
"Gatheryourselves and come;Drawneartogether,you fugitivesof the nations;They havenoknowledge,Who carryabout their woodenidolAnd prayto a godwho cannotsave.
"Those who lavishgoldfrom the purseAnd weighsilveron the scaleHirea goldsmith,and he makesit [into] a god;They bowdown,indeedthey worshipit.
The restof mankind,whowere not killedby theseplagues,did not repentof the worksof their hands,soas not to worshipdemons,and the idolsof goldand of silverand of brassand of stoneand of wood,whichcanneitherseenorhearnorwalk;
But it cameabout when the judgedied,that they would turnbackand actmorecorruptlythantheir fathers,in followingothergodsto servethem and bowdownto them; they did not abandontheir practicesor their stubbornways.
