So the kingconsulted,and madetwogoldencalves,and he saidto them, "It is toomuchfor you to goup to Jerusalem;beholdyour gods,O Israel,that broughtyou up from the landof Egypt."
Their idolsare silverand gold,The workof man'shands.
[As for] the idol,a craftsmancastsit, A goldsmithplatesit with gold,And a silversmith[fashions] chainsof silver.
"Behold,allof them are false;Their worksare worthless,Their moltenimagesare windand emptiness.
"Gatheryourselves and come;Drawneartogether,you fugitivesof the nations;They havenoknowledge,Who carryabout their woodenidolAnd prayto a godwho cannotsave.
"Like a scarecrowin a cucumberfieldare they, And they cannotspeak;They mustbe carried,Becausethey cannotwalk!Do not fearthem, For they can donoharm,Norcan they doanygood."
O LORD,my strengthand my stronghold,And my refugein the dayof distress,To You the nationswill comeFrom the endsof the earthand say,"Our fathershave inheritednothingbut falsehood,Futilityand thingsof noprofit."

"Whatprofitis the idolwhenits makerhas carvedit, [Or] an image,a teacherof falsehood?For [its] makertrustsin his [own] handiworkWhen he fashionsspeechlessidols.
"You seeand hearthat not onlyin Ephesus,but in almostallof Asia,thisPaulhas persuadedand turned awaya considerablenumber of people,sayingthat gods madewith handsare nogods[at all].
Thereforeconcerningthe eatingof things sacrificed to idols,we knowthat there is nosuch thingas an idolin the world,and that there is noGodbut one.
