"Howthen can you repulseoneofficialof the leastof my master'sservants, and relyon Egyptfor chariotsand for horsemen?
For the Lordhad caused the armyof the Arameansto heara soundof chariotsand a soundof horses,[even] the soundof a greatarmy,so that they saidto oneanother,"Behold, the kingof Israelhas hiredagainstus the kingsof the Hittitesand the kingsof the Egyptians,to comeupon us."
The horseis preparedfor the dayof battle,But victorybelongs to the LORD.
For it says,"Are not my princesallkings?
"Then they will be dismayedand ashamedbecauseof Cushtheir hopeand Egypttheir boast.
Even Egypt, whose helpis vainand empty. Therefore,I have calledher "Rahabwhohas been exterminated."
Now the Egyptiansare menand not God,And their horsesare fleshand not spirit; So the LORDwill stretchout His hand,And he who helpswill stumbleAnd he who is helpedwill fall,And allof them will cometo an endtogether.
"Behold, you relyon the staffof thiscrushedreed,[even] on Egypt,on whichif a manleans,it will gointo his handand pierceit. Sois Pharaohkingof Egyptto allwho relyon him.
"Nowtherefore, comemakea bargainwith my masterthe kingof Assyria, and I will giveyou two thousandhorses, ifyou are ableon your part to setriderson them.
"Whydo you goaround somuchChangingyour way? Also, you will be putto shameby EgyptAs you were putto shameby Assyria.
"Moreover,he shall not multiplyhorsesfor himself, norshall he cause the peopleto returnto Egyptto multiplyhorses, since the LORDhas saidto you, 'You shall neveragainreturnthat way.'
