For the LORDhas pouredoveryou a spiritof deepsleep,He has shutyour eyes,the prophets;And He has coveredyour heads,the seers.
May their eyesgrowdimsothat they cannotsee,And make their loinsshakecontinually.
Thereforebehold,I will once againdealmarvelouslywith thispeople,wondrouslymarvelous;And the wisdomof their wisemenwill perish,And the discernmentof their discerningmen will be concealed."
Whosayto the seers,"You must not see[visions"]; And to the prophets,"You must not prophesyto us whatis right,Speakto us pleasantwords,Prophesyillusions.
"Your firstforefathersinned,And your spokesmenhave transgressedagainst Me.
They do not know,nordo they understand,for He has smearedovertheir eyessothat they cannotseeand their heartssothat they cannotcomprehend.
"It shall comeabout in that day,"declaresthe LORD,"that the heartof the kingand the heartof the princeswill fail;and the priestswill be appalledand the prophetswill be astounded."
They wandered,blind,in the streets;They were defiledwith bloodSo that noone couldtouchtheir garments.
"But ifthe prophetis prevailedupon to speaka word,it is I, the LORD,who have prevailedupon that prophet,and I will stretchout My handagainsthim and destroyhim from amongMy peopleIsrael.
Do not speakout,' [so] they speakout. [But if] they do not speakout concerning thesethings,Reproacheswill not be turnedback.
And I said,"Hearnow,headsof JacobAnd rulersof the houseof Israel.Is it not for you to knowjustice?
Therefore[it will be] nightfor you-- withoutvision,And darknessfor you-- withoutdivination.The sunwill godown on the prophets,And the daywill becomedarkoverthem.
justas it is written,"GODGAVETHEM A SPIRITOF STUPOR,EYESTO SEENOT AND EARSTO HEARNOT, DOWNTO THIS VERYDAY."
in whosecasethe godof thisworldhas blindedthe mindsof the unbelievingsothat they might not seethe lightof the gospelof the gloryof Christ,whois the imageof God.
So Davidtookthe spearand the jugof waterfrom [beside] Saul'shead,and they wentaway, but noonesawor knew[it], nordid any awake,for they were allasleep,becausea soundsleepfrom the LORDhad fallenon them.
