Thereforeeventhe first[covenant] was not inauguratedwithoutblood.
"You shall takea bunchof hyssopand dipit in the bloodwhichis in the basin,and applysomeof the bloodthat is in the basinto the linteland the twodoorposts;and noneof you shall gooutsidethe doorof his houseuntilmorning.
He also had Aaron'ssonscomenear;and Mosesputsomeof the bloodon the lobeof their rightear,and on the thumbof their righthandand on the bigtoeof their rightfoot.Mosesthen sprinkled[the rest of] the bloodaroundon the altar.
how muchmorewill the bloodof Christ,whothroughthe eternalSpiritofferedHimselfwithout blemishto God,cleanseyour consciencefrom deadworksto servethe livingGod?
For a covenantis valid[only] when men are dead,for it is neverin forcewhilethe one who madeit lives.
For when everycommandmenthad been spokenby Mosesto allthe peopleaccordingto the Law,he tookthe bloodof the calvesand the goats,with waterand scarletwooland hyssop,and sprinkledboththe bookitselfand allthe people,
And accordingto the Law,[one may] almost[say], all thingsare cleansedwith blood,and withoutshedding of bloodthere is noforgiveness.
