Then to AdamHe said,"Becauseyou have listenedto the voiceof your wife,and have eatenfrom the treeabout whichI commandedyou, saying,'You shall not eatfrom it'; Cursedis the groundbecauseof you; In toilyou will eatof it Allthe daysof your life.
And He said,"Whotoldyou that you were naked?Have you eatenfrom the treeof whichI commandedyou not to eat?"
"Both thornsand thistlesit shall growfor you; And you will eatthe plantsof the field;
When the womansawthat the treewas goodfor food,and that it was a delightto the eyes,and that the treewas desirableto make [one] wise,she tookfrom its fruitand ate;and she gavealsoto her husbandwith her, and he ate.
Now he calledhis nameNoah,saying,"Thisonewill giveus restfrom our workand from the toilof our hands[arising] from the groundwhichthe LORDhas cursed."
The LORDsmelledthe soothingaroma;and the LORDsaidto Himself,"I will neveragaincursethe groundon accountof man,for the intentof man'sheartis evilfrom his youth;and I will neveragaindestroyeverylivingthing,as I have done.
"Man,who is bornof woman,Is short-livedand fullof turmoil.
"Howoftenis the lampof the wickedputout, Or does their calamityfallon them? Does God apportiondestructionin His anger?
It is vainfor you to riseup early,To retirelate,To eatthe breadof painfullabors;For He givesto His beloved[even in his] sleep.
Thus I consideredallmy activitieswhichmy handshad doneand the laborwhichI had exerted,and beholdallwas vanityand strivingafter windand therewas noprofitunderthe sun.
So I hatedlife,for the workwhichhad been doneunderthe sunwas grievousto me; becauseeverythingis futilityand strivingafter wind.
Throughouthis life[he] alsoeatsin darknesswith greatvexation,sicknessand anger.
and he saidto him, 'Friend,howdid you comein herewithoutweddingclothes?'And the man was speechless.
"ThenHe will answerthem, 'TrulyI sayto you, to the extentthat you didnot doit to oneof the leastof these,you did not doit to Me.'
"He saidto him, 'By your own wordsI will judgeyou, you worthlessslave.Did you knowthat I aman exactingman,takingup whatI did not lay downand reapingwhatI did not sow?
"These thingsI have spokento you, sothat in Me you may havepeace.In the worldyou havetribulation,but take courage;I have overcomethe world."
Nowwe knowthat whateverthe Lawsays,it speaksto thosewho are underthe Law,sothat everymouthmay be closedand allthe worldmay becomeaccountableto God;
but if it yieldsthornsand thistles,it is worthlessand closeto being cursed,and it endsup being burned.
