and I will make you swearby the LORD,the Godof heavenand the Godof earth,that you shall not takea wifefor my sonfrom the daughtersof the Canaanites,amongwhomI live,
Esausaid,"Behold,I amaboutto die;so of what[use] then is the birthrightto me?"
Then JacobgaveEsaubreadand lentilstew;and he ateand drank,and roseand wenton his way.Thus Esaudespisedhis birthright.
Now it cameabout, whenIsaacwas oldand his eyeswere toodimto see,that he calledhis oldersonEsauand saidto him, "My son."And he saidto him, "HereI am."
Isaachis fathersaidto him, "Whoare you?" And he said,"I am your son,your firstborn,Esau."
Then he said,"Is he not rightly namedJacob,for he has supplantedme thesetwotimes?He tookaway my birthright,and behold,nowhe has takenaway my blessing."And he said,"Have you not reserveda blessingfor me?"
And he sworeto her, "Whateveryou askof me, I will giveit to you; up to halfof my kingdom."
that [there be] noimmoralorgodless personlikeEsau,whosoldhis ownbirthrightfor a [single] meal.
For menswearby one greater[than themselves], and with them an oath[given] as confirmationis an endof everydispute.
