"Thisis My covenant,whichyou shall keep,betweenMe and you and your descendantsafteryou: everymaleamong you shall be circumcised.
"And you shall be circumcisedin the fleshof your foreskin,and it shall be the signof the covenantbetweenMe and you.
Then AbrahamtookIshmaelhis son,and all[the servants] whowere bornin his houseand allwhowere boughtwith his money,everymaleamong the menof Abraham'shousehold,and circumcisedthe fleshof their foreskinin the verysameday,as Godhad saidto him.
Allthe menof his household,whowere bornin the houseor boughtwith moneyfrom a foreigner,were circumcisedwith him.
Then Abrahamcircumcisedhis sonIsaacwhen he was eightdaysold,as Godhad commandedhim.
"Onlyon this[condition] will we consentto you: ifyou will becomelikeus, in that everymaleof you be circumcised,
"Onlyon this[condition] will the menconsentto us to livewith us, to becomeonepeople:that everymaleamong us be circumcisedas they are circumcised.
"But ifa strangersojournswith you, and celebratesthe Passoverto the LORD,let allhis malesbe circumcised,and thenlet him comenearto celebrateit; and he shall be like a nativeof the land.But nouncircumcisedperson may eatof it.
Then Zipporahtooka flintand cutoffher son'sforeskinand threwit at Moses' feet,and she said,"You are indeeda bridegroomof bloodto me."
"Circumciseyourselves to the LORDAnd removethe foreskinsof your heart,Menof Judahand inhabitantsof Jerusalem,OrelseMy wrathwill goforthlike fireAnd burnwith noneto quenchit, Becauseof the evilof your deeds."
"For thisreasonMoseshas givenyou circumcision(not becauseit is from Moses,but from the fathers),and on [the] Sabbathyou circumcisea man.
"And He gavehim the covenantof circumcision;and so[Abraham] became the fatherof Isaac,and circumcisedhim on the eighthday;and Isaac[became the father of] Jacob,and Jacob[of] the twelvepatriarchs.
For he is not a Jewwhois one outwardly,noris circumcisionthat which is outwardin the flesh.
whomGoddisplayed publiclyas a propitiationin His bloodthroughfaith.[This was] to demonstrateHis righteousness,becausein the forbearanceof GodHe passed overthe sinspreviously committed;
For we maintainthat a manis justifiedby faithapartfrom worksof the Law.
since indeedGodwhowill justifythe circumcisedby faithand the uncircumcisedthroughfaithis one.
Thereis neitherJewnorGreek,thereis neitherslavenorfree man,thereis neithermalenorfemale;for you are allonein ChristJesus.
Those whodesireto make a good showingin the fleshtry to compelyou to be circumcised,simplysothat they will not be persecutedfor the crossof Christ.
Thereforerememberthat formerlyyou, the Gentilesin the flesh,who are called"Uncircumcision"by the so-called"Circumcision,"[which is] performedin the fleshby human hands--
"So circumciseyour heart,and stiffenyour necknolonger.
"Moreover the LORDyour Godwill circumciseyour heartand the heartof your descendants,to lovethe LORDyour Godwith allyour heartand with allyour soul,sothat you may live.
for we are the [true] circumcision,who worshipin the Spiritof Godand gloryin ChristJesusand putnoconfidencein the flesh,
At that timethe LORDsaidto Joshua,"Makefor yourself flintknivesand circumciseagainthe sonsof Israelthe secondtime."
Thisis the reasonwhyJoshuacircumcisedthem: allthe peoplewho cameout of Egyptwho were males,allthe menof war,diedin the wildernessalong the wayafter they cameout of Egypt.
