sothat a searchmay be madein the recordbooksof your fathers.And you will discoverin the recordbooksand learnthat that cityis a rebelliouscityand damagingto kingsand provinces,and that they have incitedrevoltwithinit in pastdays;thereforethat citywas laidwaste.
For throughthe angerof the LORD[this] cameabout in Jerusalemand JudahuntilHe castthem out from His presence.And Zedekiahrebelledagainst the kingof Babylon.
Then the citywas brokeninto, and allthe menof war[fled] by nightby wayof the gatebetweenthe two wallsbesidethe king'sgarden,though the Chaldeanswere allaroundthe city.And they wentby wayof the Arabah.
let it be knownto the kingthat the Jewswhocameup from you have cometo us at Jerusalem;they are rebuildingthe rebelliousand evilcityand are finishingthe wallsand repairingthe foundations.
"Nowbecausewe are in the serviceof the palace,and it is not fittingfor us to seethe king'sdishonor,thereforewe have sentand informedthe king,
"We informthe kingthat ifthat cityis rebuiltand the wallsfinished,as a resultyou will havenopossessionin [the province] beyondthe River."
But when Sanballatthe Horoniteand Tobiahthe Ammoniteofficial,and Geshemthe Arabheard[it], they mockedus and despisedus and said,"Whatis thisthingyou are doing?Are you rebellingagainstthe king?"
In it was written,"It is reportedamong the nations,and Gashmusays,that you and the Jewsare planningto rebel;thereforeyou are rebuildingthe wall.And you are to be their king,according to thesereports.
Now when the plotwas investigatedand found[to be so], they were bothhangedon a gallows;and it was writtenin the Bookof the Chroniclesin the king'spresence.
