"Ifit has been putinto the firefor fuel,[and] the firehas consumedbothof its endsand its middleparthas beencharred,is it [then] usefulfor anything?
It is burnedwith fire,it is cutdown;They perishat the rebukeof Your countenance.
The strongmanwill becometinder,His workalso a spark.Thus they shall bothburntogetherAnd therewill be noneto quench[them].
When its limbsare dry,they are brokenoff; Womencome[and] makea firewith them, For they are not a peopleof discernment,Thereforetheir Makerwill not havecompassionon them. And their Creatorwill not be graciousto them.
"Can woodbe takenfrom it to makeanything,orcan [men] takea pegfrom it on which to hanganyvessel?
"Behold,while it is intact,it is not madeinto anything.Howmuchless,whenthe firehas consumedit and it is charred,can it stillbe madeinto anything!
"Therefore,thussaysthe LordGOD,'As the woodof the vineamong the treesof the forest,whichI have givento the firefor fuel,sohave I givenup the inhabitantsof Jerusalem;
And firehas goneout from [its] branch;It has consumedits shoots[and] fruit,So that there is not in it a strongbranch,A scepterto rule.'"Thisis a lamentation,and has becomea lamentation.
"I overthrewyou, as GodoverthrewSodomand Gomorrah,And you were like a firebrandsnatchedfrom a blaze;Yet you have not returnedto Me," declaresthe LORD.
"For behold,the dayis coming,burninglike a furnace;and allthe arrogantand everyevildoerwill be chaff;and the daythat is comingwill setthem ablaze,"saysthe LORDof hosts,"sothat it will leavethem neitherrootnorbranch."
"His winnowing forkis in His hand,and He will thoroughly clearHis threshing floor;and He will gatherHis wheatinto the barn,but He will burnup the chaffwith unquenchablefire."
"Ifanyonedoes not abidein Me, he is thrownawayas a branchand driesup; and they gatherthem, and castthem into the fireand they are burned.
