They celebratedthe Feastof Booths,as it is written,and [offered] the fixed numberof burntofferingsdaily,according to the ordinance,as eachdayrequired;
"He scornsthe tumultof the city,The shoutingsof the driverhe does not hear.
So they appointedtaskmastersoverthem to afflictthem with hardlabor.And they builtfor Pharaohstoragecities,Pithomand Raamses.
You go[and] getstrawfor yourselves whereveryou can find[it], but noneof your laborwill be reduced.'"
So the peoplescatteredthrough allthe landof Egyptto gatherstubblefor straw.
Moreover, the foremenof the sonsof Israel,whomPharaoh'staskmastershad setoverthem, were beatenand were asked,"Whyhave you not completedyour requiredamounteitheryesterdayortodayin makingbrickas previously?"
So the samedayPharaohcommandedthe taskmastersover the peopleand their foremen,saying,
