Now when Moses'father-in-lawsawallthat he was doingfor the people,he said,"Whatis thisthingthat you are doingfor the people?Whydo you alonesit[as judge] and allthe peoplestandaboutyou from morninguntilevening?"
Absalomused to riseearlyand standbesidethe wayto the gate;and when anymanhada suitto cometo the kingfor judgment,Absalomwould callto him and say,"From whatcityare you?" And he would say,"Your servantis from oneof the tribesof Israel."
It cameabout the nextdaythat Mosessatto judgethe people,and the peoplestoodaboutMosesfrom the morninguntilthe evening.
Mosessaidto his father-in-law,"Becausethe peoplecometo me to inquireof God.
They judgedthe peopleat alltimes;the difficultdisputethey would bringto Moses,but everyminordisputethey themselves would judge.
and they puthim in custodybecauseit had not been declaredwhatshould be doneto him.
The descendantsof the Kenite,Moses'father-in-law,wentup from the cityof palmswith the sonsof Judah,to the wildernessof Judahwhichis in the southof Arad;and they wentand livedwith the people.
