As they were speakingto the people,the priestsand the captainof the temple[guard] and the Sadduceescameup to them,
Thenthey understoodthat He did not sayto bewareof the leavenof bread,but of the teachingof the Phariseesand Sadducees.
And they senttheir disciplesto Him, along with the Herodians,saying,"Teacher,we knowthat You are truthfuland teachthe wayof Godin truth,and deferto no one;for You are not partialto any.
But the chief priestsand the elderspersuadedthe crowdsto askfor Barabbasand to putJesusto death.
In the same waythe chief priestsalso,along with the scribesand elders,were mocking[Him] and saying,
But when he sawmanyof the Phariseesand Sadduceescomingfor baptism,he saidto them, "You broodof vipers,whowarnedyou to fleefrom the wrathto come?
On oneof the dayswhile He was teachingthe peoplein the templeand preaching the gospel,the chief priestsand the scribeswith the eldersconfronted[Him],
And he went awayand discussedwith the chief priestsand officershowhe might betrayHim to them.
"Rememberthe wordthat I saidto you, 'A slaveis not greaterthan his master.'Ifthey persecutedMe, they will alsopersecuteyou; ifthey keptMy word,they will keepyoursalso.
Judasthen,having receivedthe [Roman] cohortand officersfrom the chief priestsand the Pharisees,cametherewith lanternsand torchesand weapons.
and Annasthe high priest[was there], and Caiaphasand Johnand Alexander,and all whowere of high-priestlydescent.
But the high priestroseup, alongwith allhis associates(that is the sectof the Sadducees),and they were filledwith jealousy.
Nowwhenthe captainof the temple[guard] and the chief priestsheardthesewords,they were greatly perplexedaboutthem as to whatwould comeof this.
Thenthe captainwent alongwith the officersand [proceeded] to bringthem [back] withoutviolence(for they were afraidof the people,that they might be stoned).
And they stirredup the people,the eldersand the scribes,and they cameup to him and dragged him awayand broughthim beforethe Council.
The wordof Godkept on spreading;and the numberof the disciplescontinued to increasegreatlyin Jerusalem,and a greatmanyof the priestswere becoming obedientto the faith.
