It happenedthat whileApolloswas at Corinth,Paulpassed throughthe uppercountryand cameto Ephesus,and foundsomedisciples.
Afterthese thingshe leftAthensand wentto Corinth.
Crispus,the leader of the synagogue,believedin the Lordwith allhis household,and manyof the Corinthianswhen they heardwere believingand being baptized.
Thisbecameknownto all,bothJewsand Greeks,who livedin Ephesus;and fearfellupon them alland the nameof the LordJesuswas being magnified.
"You seeand hearthat not onlyin Ephesus,but in almostallof Asia,thisPaulhas persuadedand turned awaya considerablenumber of people,sayingthat gods madewith handsare nogods[at all].
For Paulhad decidedto sail pastEphesussothat he wouldnot have to spend timein Asia;for he was hurryingto be in Jerusalem,ifpossible,on the dayof Pentecost.
And whenthey had cometo him, he saidto them, "You yourselvesknow,from the firstdaythat I set footin Asia,howI was with you the wholetime,
For they had previously seenTrophimusthe Ephesianin the citywith him, and they supposedthat Paulhad broughthim into the temple.
NowI meanthis,that each oneof you is saying,"I amof Paul,"and "I of Apollos,"and "I of Cephas,"and "I of Christ."
Iffrom humanmotivesI fought with wild beastsat Ephesus,whatdoes it profitme? Ifthe deadare not raised,LET US EATAND DRINK,FOR TOMORROWWE DIE.
But concerningApollosour brother,I encouragedhim greatlyto cometo you with the brethren;and it was not at all[his] desireto comenow,but he will comewhenhe has opportunity.
But I will remainin EphesusuntilPentecost;
Nowthese things,brethren,I have figuratively appliedto myselfand Apollosfor your sakes,sothat in us you may learnnot to exceedwhatis written,sothat nooneof you will become arrogantin behalfof oneagainstthe other.
