But Absalomsentspiesthroughout allthe tribesof Israel,saying,"As soon as you hearthe soundof the trumpet,then you shall say,Absalomis kingin Hebron.'"
Absalomcommandedhis servants,saying,"Seenow,when Amnon'sheartis merrywith wine,and when I sayto you, 'StrikeAmnon,'then puthim to death.Do not fear;have not I myselfcommandedyou? Be courageousand be valiant."
Therefore he saidto his servants,"See,Joab'sfieldis nextto mine, and he has barleythere;goand setit on fire."So Absalom'sservantssetthe fieldon fire.
The kingsaidto him, "Goin peace."So he aroseand wentto Hebron.
"However, Absalom,whomwe anointedoverus, has diedin battle.Nowthen, whyare you silentabout bringingthe kingback?"
Then it cameabout afterwardsthat Davidinquiredof the LORD,saying,"Shall I goup to oneof the citiesof Judah?"And the LORDsaidto him, "Goup." So Davidsaid,"Whereshall I goup?" And He said,"To Hebron."
The timethat Davidwas kingin Hebronoverthe houseof Judahwas sevenyearsand sixmonths.
At Hebronhe reignedoverJudahsevenyearsand sixmonths,and in Jerusalemhe reignedthirty-threeyearsoverallIsraeland Judah.
Then Nathanspoketo Bathshebathe motherof Solomon,saying,"Have you not heardthat Adonijahthe sonof Haggithhas becomeking,and Davidour lorddoes not know[it]?
"Let Zadokthe priestand Nathanthe prophetanointhim thereas kingoverIsrael,and blowthe trumpetand say,[Long] liveKingSolomon!'
Then they hurriedand eachmantookhis garmentand placedit underhim on the baresteps,and blewthe trumpet,saying,"Jehuis king!"
So allthe eldersof Israelcameto the kingat Hebron,and Davidmadea covenantwith them in Hebronbeforethe LORD;and they anointedDavidkingoverIsrael,according to the wordof the LORDthroughSamuel.
Now theseare the numbersof the divisionsequippedfor war,who cameto Davidat Hebron,to turnthe kingdomof Saulto him, according to the wordof the LORD.
Allthese,being menof warwho could drawup in battleformation,cameto Hebronwith a perfectheartto makeDavidkingoverallIsrael;and allthe restalsoof Israelwere of onemindto makeDavidking.
