They also brokedownthe [sacred] pillarof Baaland brokedownthe houseof Baal,and madeit a latrineto this day.
So he erectedan altarfor Baalin the houseof Baalwhichhe builtin Samaria.
Thus JehueradicatedBaalout of Israel.
Allthe peopleof the landwentto the houseof Baal,and toreit down;his altarsand his imagesthey brokein piecesthoroughly,and killedMattanthe priestof Baalbeforethe altars.And the priestappointedofficersoverthe houseof the LORD.
He removedthe highplacesand brokedownthe [sacred] pillarsand cutdownthe Asherah.He also brokein piecesthe bronzeserpentthat Moseshad made,for untilthosedaysthe sonsof Israelburnedincenseto it; and it was calledNehushtan.
He didevilin the sightof the LORD,thoughnot like his fatherand his mother;for he putawaythe [sacred] pillarof Baalwhichhis fatherhad made.
"And I issueda decreethat anymanwhoviolatesthisedict,a timbershall be drawnfrom his houseand he shall be impaledon it and his houseshall be madea refuseheapon accountof this.
"But [rather], you are to teardowntheir altarsand smashtheir [sacred] pillarsand cutdowntheir Asherim--
The kingrepliedto the Chaldeans,"The commandfrom me is firm:ifyou do not makeknownto me the dreamand its interpretation,you will be tornlimbfrom limb and your houseswill be madea rubbishheap.
"Therefore I makea decreethat anypeople,nationor tonguethat speaksanything offensiveagainstthe Godof Shadrach,Meshachand Abed-negoshall be tornlimbfrom limb and their housesreducedto a rubbishheap,inasmuchas thereis noothergodwhois ableto deliverin thisway."
I then will destroyyour highplaces,and cutdownyour incensealtars,and heapyour remainson the remainsof your idols,for My soulshall abhoryou.
"The gravenimagesof their godsyou are to burnwith fire;you shall not covetthe silveror the goldthat is on them, nortakeit for yourselves, oryou will be snaredby it, for it is an abominationto the LORDyour God.
"But thusyou shall doto them: you shall teardowntheir altars,and smashtheir [sacred] pillars,and hewdowntheir Asherim,and burntheir gravenimageswith fire.
