Then he putthe carvedimageof the idolwhichhe had madein the houseof God,of whichGodhad saidto Davidand to Solomonhis son,"In thishouseand in Jerusalem,whichI have chosenfrom allthe tribesof Israel,I will putMy nameforever;
"However,I will not tearawayallthe kingdom,[but] I will giveonetribeto your sonfor the sakeof My servantDavidand for the sakeof JerusalemwhichI have chosen."
(but he will haveonetribe,for the sakeof My servantDavidand for the sakeof Jerusalem,the citywhichI have chosenfrom allthe tribesof Israel),
So the kingconsulted,and madetwogoldencalves,and he saidto them, "It is toomuchfor you to goup to Jerusalem;beholdyour gods,O Israel,that broughtyou up from the landof Egypt."
that Your eyesmay be opentowardthishousenightand day,towardthe placeof whichYou have said,'My nameshall be there,'to listento the prayerwhichYour servantshall praytowardthisplace.
"WhenYour peoplegoout to battleagainsttheir enemy,by whateverwayYou shall sendthem, and they prayto the LORDtowardthe citywhichYou have chosenand the housewhichI have builtfor Your name,
if they returnto You with alltheir heartand with alltheir soulin the landof their enemieswhohave takenthem captive,and prayto You towardtheir landwhichYou have givento their fathers,the citywhichYou have chosen,and the housewhichI have builtfor Your name;
The LORDsaidto him, "I have heardyour prayerand your supplication,whichyou have madebeforeMe; I have consecratedthishousewhichyou have builtby puttingMy namethereforever,and My eyesand My heartwill be thereperpetually.
He broughtout the Asherahfrom the houseof the LORDoutsideJerusalemto the brookKidron,and burnedit at the brookKidron,and ground[it] to dust,and threwits duston the gravesof the commonpeople.
He also removedthe foreigngodsand the idolfrom the houseof the LORD,as well as allthe altarswhichhe had builton the mountainof the houseof the LORDand in Jerusalem,and he threw[them] outsidethe city.
He builtaltarsin the houseof the LORDof whichthe LORDhad said,"My nameshall be in Jerusalemforever."
Sincethe daythat I broughtMy peoplefrom the landof Egypt,I did not choosea cityout of allthe tribesof Israel[in which] to builda housethat My namemight be there,nordid I chooseanymanfor a leaderoverMy peopleIsrael;
but I have chosenJerusalemthat My namemight be there,and I have chosenDavidto be overMy peopleIsrael.'
"For nowI have chosenand consecratedthishousethat My namemay be thereforever,and My eyesand My heartwill be thereperpetually.
But chosethe tribeof Judah,MountZionwhichHe loved.
"You shall not makefor yourself an idol,or anylikenessof whatis in heavenaboveor on the earthbeneathor in the waterunderthe earth.
"For the sonsof Judahhave donethat whichis evilin My sight,"declaresthe LORD,"they have settheir detestablethingsin the housewhichis calledby My name,to defileit.
He then returnedthe elevenhundred[pieces] of silverto his mother,and his mothersaid,"I whollydedicatethe silverfrom my handto the LORDfor my sonto makea gravenimageand a moltenimage;nowtherefore, I will returnthem to you."
