Nevertheless, the peoplerefusedto listento the voiceof Samuel,and they said,"No,but there shall be a kingoverus,
But they did not listen,and Manassehseducedthem to doevilmorethanthe nationswhomthe LORDdestroyedbeforethe sonsof Israel.
"But My peopledid not listento My voice,And Israeldid not obeyMe.
"So I gavethem overto the stubbornnessof their heart,To walkin their own devices.
SoI will choosetheir punishmentsAnd will bringon them whatthey dread.BecauseI called,but nooneanswered;I spoke,but they did not listen.And they didevilin My sightAnd chosethat in whichI did not delight."
"As for the messagethat you have spokento us in the nameof the LORD,we are not going to listento you!
"And now,becauseyou have doneallthesethings,"declaresthe LORD,"and I spoketo you, risingup earlyand speaking,but you did not hear,and I calledyou but you did not answer,
"They cometo you as peoplecome,and sitbeforeyou [as] My peopleand hearyour words,but they do not dothem, for they dothe lustfuldesires[expressed] by their mouth,[and] their heartgoesaftertheir gain.
"Whenyou enterthe landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou, and you possessit and livein it, and you say,I will seta kingoverme like allthe nationswhoare aroundme,'
"When you sawthat Nahashthe kingof the sonsof Ammoncameagainstyou, you saidto me, 'No,but a kingshall reignoverus,' although the LORDyour God[was] your king.
