Now it cameabout, when Abiatharthe sonof Ahimelechfledto Davidat Keilah,[that] he camedown[with] an ephodin his hand.
Then to Abiatharthe priestthe kingsaid,"Goto Anathothto your own field,for you deserveto die;but I will not putyou to deathat thistime,becauseyou carriedthe arkof the LordGODbeforemy fatherDavid,and becauseyou were afflictedin everythingwith whichmy fatherwas afflicted."
"They shall also makethe ephodof gold,of blueand purple[and] scarlet[material] and finetwistedlinen,the workof the skillfulworkman.
Then Saulsaidto Ahijah,"Bringthe arkof Godhere."For the arkof Godwas at that timewith the sonsof Israel.
and Ahijah,the sonof Ahitub,Ichabod'sbrother,the sonof Phinehas,the sonof Eli,the priestof the LORDat Shiloh,was wearingan ephod.And the peopledid not knowthat Jonathanhad gone.
But onesonof Ahimelechthe sonof Ahitub,namedAbiathar,escapedand fledafterDavid.
So Davidinquiredof the LORD,saying,"Shall I goand attackthesePhilistines?"And the LORDsaidto David,"Goand attackthe Philistinesand deliverKeilah."
So Davidand his menwentto Keilahand foughtwith the Philistines;and he ledawaytheir livestockand struckthem with a greatslaughter.Thus Daviddeliveredthe inhabitantsof Keilah.
When it was toldSaulthat Davidhad cometo Keilah,Saulsaid,"Godhas deliveredhim into my hand,for he shuthimself in by enteringa citywith double gatesand bars."
Now Davidknewthat Saulwas plottingevilagainsthim; so he saidto Abiatharthe priest,"Bringthe ephodhere."
Then Davidsaidto Abiatharthe priest,the sonof Ahimelech,"Pleasebringme the ephod."So Abiatharbroughtthe ephodto David.
