Then he leftthem with the kingof Moab;and they stayedwith him allthe timethat Davidwas in the stronghold.
When Davidarosein the morning,the wordof the LORDcameto the prophetGad,David'sseer,saying,
He defeatedMoab,and measuredthem with the line,making them liedownon the ground;and he measuredtwolinesto putto deathand one fulllineto keepalive.And the Moabitesbecameservantsto David,bringingtribute.
Davidwas thenin the stronghold,while the garrisonof the Philistines[was] thenin Bethlehem.
Then someof the sonsof Benjaminand Judahcameto the strongholdto David.
The LORDspoketo Gad,David'sseer,saying,
Now the actsof KingDavid,from firstto last,are writtenin the chroniclesof Samuelthe seer,in the chroniclesof Nathanthe prophetand in the chroniclesof Gadthe seer,
He then stationedthe Levitesin the houseof the LORDwith cymbals,with harpsand with lyres,according to the commandof Davidand of Gadthe king'sseer,and of Nathanthe prophet;for the commandwas from the LORDthroughHis prophets.
But I said,"Should a manlikeme flee?And could one suchas I gointo the templeto savehis life?I will not goin."
In the LORDI takerefuge;Howcan you sayto my soul,"Flee[as] a birdto your mountain;
"But wheneverthey persecuteyou in onecity,fleeto the next;for trulyI sayto you, you will not finish[going through] the citiesof Israeluntilthe Sonof Mancomes.
And Davidwentfrom thereto Mizpahof Moab;and he saidto the kingof Moab,"Pleaselet my fatherand my mothercome[and stay] with you untilI knowwhatGodwill dofor me."
The prophetGadsaidto David,"Do not stayin the stronghold;depart,and gointo the landof Judah."So Daviddepartedand wentinto the forestof Hereth.
