Then JonathancalledDavid,and Jonathantoldhim allthesewords.And JonathanbroughtDavidto Saul,and he was in his presenceas formerly.
Jacobsawthe attitudeof Laban,and behold,it was not [friendly] towardhim as formerly.
"In timespast,evenwhen Saulwas king,you [were] the one who ledout and broughtin Israel;and the LORDyour Godsaidto you, 'You shall shepherdMy peopleIsrael,and you shall be princeoverMy peopleIsrael.'"
Then Mosessaidto the LORD,"Please,Lord,I have neverbeen eloquent,neitherrecentlynorin timepast,norsinceYou have spokento Your servant;for I am slowof speechand slowof tongue."
For Tophethhas longbeen ready,Indeed,it has been preparedfor the king.He has madeit deepand large,A pyreof firewith plentyof wood;The breathof the LORD,like a torrentof brimstone,setsit afire.
Then Davidcameto Sauland attendedhim; and Saul lovedhim greatly,and he becamehis armorbearer.
Now it cameabout on the nextdaythat an evilspiritfrom Godcamemightilyupon Saul,and he ravedin the midstof the house,while Davidwas playing[the harp] with his hand,as usual;and a spear[was] in Saul'shand.
Therefore Saulremovedhim from his presenceand appointedhim as his commanderof a thousand;and he wentout and camein beforethe people.
Saultookhim that dayand did not lethim returnto his father'shouse.
Saullistenedto the voiceof Jonathan,and Saulvowed,"As the LORDlives,he shall not be putto death."
When there was waragain,Davidwentout and foughtwith the Philistinesand defeatedthem with greatslaughter,so that they fledbeforehim.
