When they sawhim from a distanceand beforehe camecloseto them, they plottedagainsthim to puthim to death.
Then they broughtthe headof Ish-boshethto Davidat Hebronand saidto the king,"Behold,the headof Ish-bosheththe sonof Saul,your enemy,whosoughtyour life;thus the LORDhas givenmy lordthe kingvengeancethisdayon Sauland his descendants."
Now it cameabout when he had finishedspeakingto Saul,that the soulof Jonathanwas knitto the soulof David,and Jonathanlovedhim as himself.
Saulthen said,"Thusyou shall sayto David,'The kingdoes not desireany dowryexcepta hundredforeskinsof the Philistines,to takevengeanceon the king'senemies.'"Now Saulplannedto make Davidfallby the handof the Philistines.
Then Jonathanmadea covenantwith Davidbecause he lovedhim as himself.
Then Saulbecameveryangry,for thissayingdispleasedhim; and he said,"They have ascribedto Davidtenthousands,but to me they have ascribedthousands.Now what morecan he have but the kingdom?"
Saullookedat Davidwith suspicionfrom that dayon.
So JonathantoldDavidsaying,"Saulmy fatheris seekingto putyou to death.Nowtherefore, pleasebe on guardin the morning,and stayin a secretplaceand hideyourself.
Then Davidfledfrom Naiothin Ramah,and cameand saidto Jonathan,"Whathave I done?Whatis my iniquity?And whatis my sinbeforeyour father,that he is seekingmy life?"
"When you have stayedfor threedays,you shall godownquicklyand cometo the placewhereyou hidyourself on that eventfulday,and you shall remainby the stoneEzel.
