Davidroseup and went,he and his men,and struckdowntwo hundredmenamong the Philistines.Then Davidbroughttheir foreskins,and they gavethem in fullnumber to the king,that he might becomethe king'sson-in-law.So Saulgavehim Michalhis daughterfor a wife.
He said,"Good!I will makea covenantwith you, but I demandonethingof you, namely,you shall not seemy faceunlessyou firstbringMichal,Saul'sdaughter,when you cometo seeme."
So Davidsentmessengersto Ish-bosheth,Saul'sson,saying,"Giveme my wifeMichal,to whomI was betrothedfor a hundredforeskinsof the Philistines."
Then the Spiritof the LORDcameupon him mightily,and he wentdownto Ashkelonand killedthirtyof them and tooktheir spoiland gavethe changes[of clothes] to those who toldthe riddle.And his angerburned,and he wentup to his father'shouse.
Now the sonsof Saulwere Jonathanand Ishviand Malchi-shua;and the namesof his twodaughters[were these]: the nameof the firstbornMeraband the nameof the youngerMichal.
Therefore Saulremovedhim from his presenceand appointedhim as his commanderof a thousand;and he wentout and camein beforethe people.
Then Saulsaidto David,"Hereis my olderdaughterMerab;I will giveher to you as a wife,onlybe a valiantmanfor me and fightthe LORD'Sbattles."For Saulthought,"My handshall not be against him, but let the handof the Philistinesbe against him."
When Saulsawand knewthat the LORDwas with David,and [that] Michal,Saul'sdaughter,lovedhim,
Now Saulhad givenMichalhis daughter,David'swife,to Paltithe sonof Laish,whowas from Gallim.
