Therewas nothingin the arkexceptthe twotabletsof stonewhichMosesputthereat Horeb,wherethe LORDmadea covenant with the sonsof Israel,when they cameout of the landof Egypt.
"ThereI have seta placefor the ark,in whichis the covenantof the LORD,whichHe madewith our fatherswhen He broughtthem from the landof Egypt."

The poleswere so longthat the endsof the polesof the arkcould be seenin frontof the innersanctuary,but they could not be seenoutside;and they are thereto thisday.
The LORDwas goingbeforethem in a pillarof cloudby dayto leadthem on the way,and in a pillarof fireby nightto givethem light,that they might travelby dayand by night.
At the morningwatch,the LORDlookeddownon the armyof the Egyptiansthrough the pillarof fireand cloudand broughtthe armyof the Egyptiansinto confusion.
It cameabout as Aaronspoketo the wholecongregationof the sonsof Israel,that they lookedtowardthe wilderness,and behold,the gloryof the LORDappearedin the cloud.
Mosessaidto Aaron,"Takea jarand putan omerfulof mannain it, and placeit beforethe LORDto be keptthroughout your generations."
"You shall putinto the arkthe testimonywhichI shall giveyou.
"You shall putthe mercyseaton topof the ark,and in the arkyou shall putthe testimonywhichI will giveto you.
Then he tookthe testimonyand put[it] into the ark,and attachedthe polesto the ark,and putthe mercyseaton topof the ark.
Then the gloryof the LORDwentup from the cherubto the thresholdof the temple,and the templewas filledwith the cloudand the courtwas filledwith the brightnessof the gloryof the LORD.
The LORDsaidto Moses:"Tellyour brotherAaronthat he shall not enterat anytimeinto the holyplace insidethe veil,beforethe mercyseatwhichis on the ark,orhe will die;for I will appearin the cloudoverthe mercyseat.
But the LORDsaidto Moses,"Putbackthe rodof Aaronbeforethe testimonyto be keptas a signagainst the rebels,that you may putan endto their grumblingsagainstMe, so that they will not die."
Now on the daythat the tabernaclewas erectedthe cloudcoveredthe tabernacle,the tentof the testimony,and in the eveningit was like the appearanceof fireoverthe tabernacle,untilmorning.
"Takethisbookof the lawand placeit besidethe arkof the covenantof the LORDyour God,that it may remainthereas a witnessagainst you.
"So He declaredto you His covenantwhichHe commandedyou to perform,[that is], the TenCommandments;and He wrotethem on twotabletsof stone.
havinga goldenaltar of incenseand the arkof the covenantcoveredon all sideswith gold,in whichwas a goldenjarholdingthe manna,and Aaron'srodwhich budded,and the tablesof the covenant;
And the templewas filledwith smokefrom the gloryof Godand from His power;and no onewas ableto enterthe templeuntilthe sevenplaguesof the sevenangelswere finished.
