Then a crypassedthroughoutthe armyclose to sunset,saying,"Everymanto his cityand everymanto his country."
So the kingaroseand satin the gate.When they toldallthe people,saying,"Behold,the kingis sittingin the gate,"then allthe peoplecamebeforethe king.Now Israelhad fled,eachto his tent.
When allIsrael[saw] that the kingdid not listento them, the peopleansweredthe king,saying,"Whatportiondo we have in David?[We have] noinheritancein the sonof Jesse;To your tents,O Israel!Nowlookafter your own house,David!"So Israeldepartedto their tents.
Thussaysthe LORD,"You must not goup and fightagainstyour relativesthe sonsof Israel;returneverymanto his house,for thisthinghas comefrom Me."'" So they listenedto the wordof the LORD,and returnedand went[their way] according to the wordof the LORD.
So he said,"I sawallIsraelScatteredon the mountains,Like sheepwhichhavenoshepherd.And the LORDsaid,'Thesehave nomaster.Let eachof them returnto his housein peace.'"
Now the kingof Aramhad commandedthe thirty-twocaptainsof his chariots,saying,"Do not fightwith smallor great,but with the kingof Israelalone."
The battleragedthat day,and the kingwas proppedup in his chariotin frontof the Arameans,and diedat evening,and the bloodfrom the woundraninto the bottomof the chariot.
So the kingdiedand was broughtto Samaria,and they buriedthe kingin Samaria.
Judahwas defeatedby Israel,and they fledeachto his tent.
The sonsof Israeldepartedfrom thereat that time,everymanto his tribeand family,and eachoneof them wentout from thereto his inheritance.
So the Philistinesfoughtand Israelwas defeated,and everymanfledto his tent;and the slaughterwas verygreat,for there fellof Israelthirtythousandfootsoldiers.
