So Elijahwentto showhimself to Ahab.Now the famine[was] severein Samaria.
Now it happened[after] manydaysthat the wordof the LORDcameto Elijahin the thirdyear,saying,"Go,showyourself to Ahab,and I will sendrainon the faceof the earth."
AhabcalledObadiahwho[was] overthe household.(Now Obadiahfearedthe LORDgreatly;
"Now thereforethussaysthe LORD,You shall not comedownfrom the bedwhereyou have goneup, but you shall surelydie.'"Then Elijahdeparted.
There was a greatfaminein Samaria;and behold,they besiegedit, untila donkey'sheadwas soldfor eighty[shekels] of silver,and a fourthof a kabof dove'sdungfor five[shekels] of silver.
The LORDis my lightand my salvation;Whomshall I fear?The LORDis the defenseof my life;Whomshall I dread?
Against You, You only,I have sinnedAnd donewhatis evilin Your sight,Sothat You are justifiedwhen You speakAnd blamelesswhen You judge.
Alldaylong they distortmy words;Alltheir thoughtsare againstme for evil.
The wickedfleewhen nooneis pursuing,But the righteousare boldas a lion.
"I, even I, am He who comfortsyou. Whoare you that you are afraidof manwho diesAnd of the sonof manwho is madelike grass,
IfI goout to the country,Behold,those slainwith the sword!Or ifI enterthe city,Behold,diseasesof famine!For bothprophetand priestHave gone rovingaboutin the landthat they do not know.'"
Your strengthwill be spentuselessly,for your landwill not yieldits produceand the treesof the landwill not yieldtheir fruit.
When I breakyour staffof bread,tenwomenwill bakeyour breadin oneoven,and they will bringbackyour breadin rationedamounts,so that you will eatand not be satisfied.
