He dividedhis forces againstthem by night,he and his servants,and defeatedthem, and pursuedthem as faras Hobah,whichis northof Damascus.
But the ArameansfledbeforeIsrael,and Davidkilled700charioteersof the Arameansand 40,000horsemenand struckdownShobachthe commanderof their army,and he diedthere.
Now when the sonsof Ammonsawthat they had becomeodiousto David,the sonsof Ammonsentand hiredthe Arameansof Beth-rehoband the Arameansof Zobah,20000footsoldiers,and the kingof Maacahwith 1,000men,and the menof Tobwith 12,000men.
The sonsof Ammoncameout and drewup in battlearray at the entranceof the city,while the Arameansof Zobahand of Rehoband the menof Toband Maacah[were] by themselvesin the field.
Then DaviddefeatedHadadezer,the sonof Rehobkingof Zobah,as he wentto restorehis ruleat the River.
So he was an adversaryto Israelallthe daysof Solomon,along with the evilthat Hadad[did]; and he abhorredIsraeland reignedoverAram.
Then Asatookallthe silverand the goldwhich were leftin the treasuriesof the houseof the LORDand the treasuriesof the king'shouse,and deliveredthem into the handof his servants.And KingAsasentthem to Ben-hadadthe sonof Tabrimmon,the sonof Hezion,kingof Aram,who livedin Damascus,saying,
The LORDsaidto him, "Go,returnon your wayto the wildernessof Damascus,and when you have arrived,you shall anointHazaelkingoverAram;
[Ben-hadad] saidto him, "The citieswhichmy fathertookfrom your fatherI will restore,and you shall makestreetsfor yourself in Damascus,as my fathermadein Samaria."[Ahab said], "And I will letyou gowith this covenant."So he madea covenantwith him and lethim go.
Now the restof the actsof Jeroboamand allthat he didand his might,howhe foughtand howhe recoveredfor Israel,Damascusand Hamath,[which had belonged] to Judah,are they not writtenin the Bookof the Chroniclesof the Kingsof Israel?
Then Elishacameto Damascus.Now Ben-hadadkingof Aramwas sick,and it was toldhim, saying,"The manof Godhas comehere."
and askedfor lettersfrom him to the synagoguesat Damascus,sothat ifhe foundanybelongingto the Way,bothmenand women,he might bringthem boundto Jerusalem.
