For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.


Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God:


Our soul hath waited for the LORD: He is our help and our shield.


God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.


He that committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding: He doeth it that would destroy his own soul.


But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: All they that hate me love death.


Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.


The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.


Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?


Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.


Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness; for it is bitter, for it reacheth unto thine heart.


Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good from you.


Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou shalt know no god but me, and beside me there is no saviour.


O ISRAEL, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.


And they have not cried unto me with their heart, but they howl upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, they rebel against me.


Though I have taught and strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.


But ye profane it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible.


Ye say also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.


And now, I pray you, entreat the favour of God, that he may be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he accept any of your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.


There is none like unto God, O Jeshurun, Who rideth upon the heaven for thy help, And in his excellency on the skies.


Happy art thou, O Israel: Who is like unto thee, a people saved by the LORD, The shield of thy help, And that is the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall submit themselves unto thee; And thou shalt tread upon their high places.
