American Standard Version (1901) This is my resting-place for ever: Here will I dwell; for I have desired it. Common English Bible “This is my residence forever. I will live here because I wanted it for myself. |
“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Even heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you, much less this house that I have built!
The Lord said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your plea that you made before me; I have consecrated this house that you have built and put my name there forever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time.
For David said, “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and he resides in Jerusalem forever.
Rise up, O Lord, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.
Blessed be the Lord from Zion, he who resides in Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!
Why do you look with envy, O many-peaked mountain, at the mount that God desired for his abode, where the Lord will reside forever?
You ascended the high mount, leading captives in your train and receiving gifts from people, even from those who rebel against the Lord God’s abiding there.
On that day the root of Jesse shall stand as a signal to the peoples; the nations shall inquire of him, and his dwelling shall be glorious.
Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”

See, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.
I will avenge their blood, and I will not clear the guilty, for the Lord dwells in Zion.
The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will renew you in his love; he will exult over you with loud singing
and whoever swears by the sanctuary swears by it and by the one who dwells in it,
in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
