Happy are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your countenance;


they exult in your name all day long and extol your righteousness.


And on that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.


“When he has finished atoning for the holy place and the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall present the live goat.


“This shall be a statute to you forever: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble yourselves and shall do no work, neither the native-born nor the alien who resides among you.


For on this day atonement shall be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins you shall be clean before the Lord.


“Speak to the Israelites, saying: In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of complete rest, a holy convocation commemorated with trumpet blasts.


“Now, the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement; it shall be a holy convocation for you: you shall humble yourselves and present the Lord’s offering by fire,


“You shall count off seven weeks of years, seven times seven years, so that the period of seven weeks of years gives forty-nine years.


If the person consecrates the field as of the year of Jubilee, that assessment shall stand,


In the year of Jubilee the field shall return to the one from whom it was bought, whose holding the land is.


Also on your days of rejoicing, at your appointed festivals, and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over your sacrifices of well-being; they shall serve as a reminder on your behalf before the Lord your God: I am the Lord your God.”


And when the Jubilee of the Israelites comes, then their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe into which they have married, and their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of our ancestral tribe.”


But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have: “Their voice has gone out to all the earth and their words to the ends of the world.”
