Among those who know me I mention Rahab and Babylon; Philistia, too, and Tyre, with Cush— “This one was born there,” they say.


You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.


For Egypt’s help is worthless and empty; therefore I have called her, “Rahab who sits still.”


Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people, and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them; the mountains quaked, and their corpses were like refuse in the streets. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.


Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord! Awake, as in days of old, the generations of long ago! Was it not you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the dragon?
