Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord; they provoked him to jealousy with their sins that they committed, more than all that their ancestors had done.


but you have done evil above all those who were before you and have gone and made for yourself other gods and cast images, provoking me to anger, and have thrust me behind your back,


They would not listen but were stubborn, as their ancestors had been, who did not believe in the Lord their God.


They despised his statutes and his covenant that he had made with their ancestors and the warnings that he had given them. They went after false idols and became false; they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the Lord had commanded them that they should not do as they did.


Do not now be stiff-necked as your ancestors were, but yield yourselves to the Lord and come to his sanctuary, which he has sanctified forever, and serve the Lord your God, so that his fierce anger may turn away from you.


The Lord spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they gave no heed.


He did not humble himself before the Lord, as his father Manasseh had humbled himself, but this Amon incurred more and more guilt.


And you warned them in order to turn them back to your law, yet they acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments but sinned against your ordinances, by the observance of which a person shall live. They turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not obey.


One who is often reproved, yet remains stubborn, will suddenly be broken beyond healing.


Because I know that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew and your forehead brass,


What more was there to do for my vineyard that I have not done in it? When I expected it to yield grapes, why did it yield rotten grapes?


Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but everyone walked in the stubbornness of an evil will. So I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.


and because you have behaved worse than your ancestors, for here you are, every one of you, following your stubborn evil will, refusing to listen to me.


Yet they did not listen or incline their ear; they stiffened their necks and would not hear or receive instruction.


Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I am now bringing upon this city and upon all its towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their necks, refusing to hear my words.


I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, “I will not listen.” This has been your way from your youth, for you have not obeyed my voice.


For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of King Josiah son of Amon of Judah to this day, the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken persistently to you, but you have not listened.


Yet you did not listen to me, says the Lord, and so you have provoked me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.


and to heed the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you urgently—though you have not heeded—


because they did not heed my words, says the Lord, when I persistently sent to them my servants the prophets, but you would not listen, says the Lord.


Only acknowledge your guilt, that you have rebelled against the Lord your God and scattered your favors among strangers under every green tree and have not obeyed my voice, says the Lord.


and they entered and took possession of it. But they did not obey your voice or follow your laws; of all you commanded them to do, they did nothing. Therefore you have made all these disasters come upon them.


“Every seventh year each of you must set free any Hebrews who have been sold to you and have served you six years; you must set them free from your service.” But your ancestors did not listen to me or incline their ears to me.


I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, sending them persistently, saying, “Turn now every one of you from your evil way, and amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and then you shall live in the land that I gave to you and your ancestors.” But you did not incline your ear or obey me.


Therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: I am going to bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem every disaster that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them and they have not listened, I have called to them and they have not answered.


“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we are not going to listen to you.


O Lord, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to turn back.


To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? See, their ears are closed; they cannot listen. The word of the Lord is to them an object of scorn; they take no pleasure in it.


Also I raised up sentinels for you: “Give heed to the sound of the trumpet!” But they said, “We will not give heed.”


Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but, in the stubbornness of their evil will, they walked in their own counsels and looked backward rather than forward.


And the Lord says: Because they have forsaken my law that I set before them and have not obeyed my voice or walked in accordance with it


Mortal, you are living in the midst of a rebellious house who have eyes to see but do not see, who have ears to hear but do not hear,


for they are a rebellious house. Therefore, mortal, prepare for yourself an exile’s baggage, and go into exile by day in their sight; you shall go like an exile from your place to another place in their sight. Perhaps they will understand, though they are a rebellious house.


Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: Will you defile yourselves after the manner of your ancestors and go astray after their detestable things?


We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.


My people are bent on turning away from me. To the Most High they call, but he does not raise them up at all.


But they refused to listen and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears in order not to hear.


Ever since the days of your ancestors you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, “How shall we return?”


But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and get his inheritance.’


Fill up, then, the measure of your ancestors.


“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you are forever opposing the Holy Spirit, just as your ancestors used to do.


But by your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.


Like the nations that the Lord is destroying before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God.
