For the palace will be forsaken, the populous city deserted; the hill and the watchtower will become dens forever, the joy of wild asses, a pasture for flocks;


For the Lord will come in fire and his chariots in a whirlwind, to vent his anger in fury and his rebuke in flames of fire.


Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard; they have trampled down my portion; they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.


They have sown wheat and have reaped thorns; they have tired themselves out but profit nothing. They shall be ashamed of their harvests because of the fierce anger of the Lord.


Lift up your eyes and see those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given you, your beautiful flock?


Listen! The cry of the shepherds and the wail of the lords of the flock! For the Lord is despoiling their pasture,


They shall eat up your harvest and your food; they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; they shall destroy with the sword your fortified cities in which you trust.


for indeed our God is a consuming fire.
