So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels.


The more I called them, the more they went from me; they kept sacrificing to the Baals and offering incense to idols.


The sword rages in their cities; it consumes their oracle priests and devours because of their schemes.


Ephraim herds the wind and pursues the east wind all day long; they multiply falsehood and violence; they make a treaty with Assyria, and oil is carried to Egypt.


And now they keep on sinning and make a cast image for themselves, idols of silver made according to their understanding, all of them the work of artisans. “Sacrifice to these,” they say. People are kissing calves!


Yet let no one contend, and let none accuse, for with you is my contention, O priest.


Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if one blind person guides another, both will fall into a pit.”


Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”
