"Assuredly I say to you, among [those] born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.


Now as these men were going, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?


So they said, "Some [say] John the Baptist, but others [say] Elijah, and [yet ]others [say ]Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."


For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; but you, having seen, did not repent afterwards, that you might believe him.


Therefore produce fruits worthy of repentance,


and saying, "The time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."


As it is written in the Prophets: "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You."


"And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,


Now when John's messengers had departed, He began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What have you gone out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?


beginning from the baptism of John until the day in which He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection."
