Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might trap Him in His speech.
But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, "Why do you test Me, [you] hypocrites?
Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,
Then they sent to Him some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, in order that they might catch Him in [His ]discourse.
And they were observing Him, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.
And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be dreadfully hostile, and to cross-examine Him about many things,
And having watched [Him] closely, they sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor.
But they could not catch Him in His words in front of the people. And marveling at His answer, they kept silent.
Therefore you [must] not be persuaded by them; for more than four hundred of them are lying in wait for him, who have bound themselves by a curse neither to eat nor to drink until they kill him; and now they are prepared, waiting for the promise from you."
