While Jesus was still speaking to the large crowds, His mother and [half-] brothers were standing outside [of the large house. See 13:1] wanting to speak to Him.
But Jesus answered him, “Allow it [to be done], for it is proper for us to complete everything that is right [before God].” So, John agreed to it.
And it happened at that time that Jesus went from Nazareth, in Galilee [i.e., south to Judea], where He was immersed by John in the Jordan River.
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters living here among us?” And they were led to doubt His true identity.
So, when Joseph and Mary had completed everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to their [current home] town of Nazareth, in Galilee.
Jesus then went to Nazareth where He had been brought up. He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day, according to His custom, and stood up to read [the Scriptures].
And He replied to them, “No doubt you will tell me this proverb, ‘Doctor, heal yourself,’ and ‘Perform [the miracles] here in your own home town also that we heard you did in Capernaum.’”
[After all], this is what you were called to do, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you would follow in His steps.
