But [rather] go to the lost sheep of the people of Israel.


And He spoke many things to them in parables [i.e., brief stories to illustrate His teaching], saying, “once a farmer went out [to his field] to plant grain.


Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not [only] sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call righteous people [to be my followers] but sinners.”


And the Pharisees and experts in the Law of Moses both complained, saying, “This man welcomes worldly people and [even] eats with them.”


“Which one of you who has a hundred sheep, and loses one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in a deserted place and go looking for the lost one until he finds it?


Jesus asked him a second time, “Simon, son of John; do you [really] love me?” Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus replied to him, “[Then] take care of my sheep.”


And when they heard [all] this, they gave honor to God, then said to Paul, “Brother, you can see how many thousands of Jewish believers [in Christ] there are [everywhere] and all of them are eager to observe the [requirements of the] Law of Moses.
