And there was a scarcity of food in the days of Dawiḏ for three years, year after year. And Dawiḏ sought the face of יהוה, and יהוה answered, “Because of Sha’ul and his bloodthirsty house, because he killed the Giḇ‛onites.”


and buried the bones of Sha’ul and Yehonathan his son in the land of Binyamin in Tsela, in the burial-site of Qish his father, and did all that the sovereign commanded. And after that Elohim heard prayer for the land.


And the sovereign said to him, “Do as he has said, and fall upon him. And you shall bury him, so that you take away from me and from the house of my father the blood which Yo’aḇ shed without cause.


“No eye felt sorry for you, to do any of these for you, to have compassion on you. But you were thrown out into the open field, to the loathing of your life on the day you were born.


‘And a man who strikes the being of any man shall certainly be put to death.


‘And he who strikes a beast repays it, and he who strikes a man to death is put to death.


And take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall certainly be put to death.


do not agree with him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pardon him, nor spare him or conceal him,


and the elders of his city shall send and bring him from there, and give him into the hand of the revenger of blood, and he shall die.


“And let your eye not pardon, life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.


“Thus you purge the guilt of innocent blood from your midst when you do what is right in the eyes of יהוה.


then you shall cut off her hand – your eye does not pardon.


“And you shall consume all the peoples whom יהוה your Elohim is delivering over to you – your eye shall not pardon them. And do not serve their mighty ones, for that is a snare to you.


“And when יהוה your Elohim gives them over to you, you shall strike them and put them under the ban, completely. Make no covenant with them, and show them no favour.
