2 Kings 5:8 - The Scriptures 2009

8 And it came to be, when Elisha the man of Elohim heard that the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl had torn his garments, that he sent to the sovereign, saying, “Why have you torn your garments? Please let him come to me, so that he knows that there is a prophet in Yisra’ĕl.”

But the word of Elohim came to Shemayah the man of Elohim, saying,


And the woman said to Ěliyahu, “Now by this I know that you are a man of Elohim, and that the word of יהוה in your mouth is truth.”


And they said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the sovereign who sent you, and say to him, “Thus said יהוה, ‘Is it because there is no Elohim in Yisra’ĕl that you are sending to inquire of Ba‛al-Zeḇuḇ, the mighty one of Eqron? Therefore you are not going to get out of the bed to which you have gone up, for you shall certainly die.’” ’ ”


And he returned to the man of Elohim, he and all his company, and came and stood before him and said, “See, now I know that there is no Elohim in all the earth, except in Yisra’ĕl. And now, please take a gift from your servant.”


And she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Shomeron! Then he would recover him of his leprosy.”


And it came to be, when the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl read the letter, that he tore his garments and said, “Am I Elohim, to kill and keep alive, that this man sends a man to me to recover him of his leprosy? For consider now, and see how he is seeking an occasion with me!”


So Na‛aman came with his horses and chariot, and he stood at the entrance of the house of Elisha.


And all these servants of yours shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Get out, you and all the people at your feet!’ And after that I shall go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in great displeasure.


“And they – whether they hear or whether they refuse, for they are a rebellious house – shall know that a prophet has been in their midst.


And by a prophet יהוה brought Yisra’ĕl out of Mitsrayim, and by a prophet he was watched over.


For I speak to you, the nations, inasmuch as I am an emissary to the nations, I esteem my service,


And he said to him, “See, there is in this city a man of Elohim, and the man is esteemed. All that he says comes true, without fail. Now, let us go there. It could be that he shows us the way to go.”
