And it came to be, when the gates of Yerushalayim were shaded before the Sabbath, that I commanded the doors to be shut, and commanded that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath. And I stationed some of my servants at the gates, so that no burdens would be brought in on the Sabbath day.


After him Binyamin and Ḥashshuḇ strengthened opposite their house. After them Azaryah son of Ma‛asĕyah, son of Ananyah, strengthened near his house.


And I put my brother Ḥanani in command of Yerushalayim, and Ḥananyah the head of the palace, for he was a trustworthy man and feared Elohim more than many.


And the city was wide on both sides and great, but the people in it were few, and the houses were not rebuilt.


If יהוה does not build the house, Its builders have laboured in vain. If יהוה does not guard the city, The watchman has stayed awake in vain.


For He has strengthened the bars of your gates, He has blessed your children in your midst,


“See, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.
