The comeliness of young men is their strength, And the splendour of old men is their grey hair.


Listen to your father who brought you forth, And do not despise your mother when she is old.


And the people shall exert pressure, man on man, man on his neighbour; the young rise up against the older, and the lightly esteemed against the highly esteemed.”


Rulers were hung up by their hands, And elders were not respected.


‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling-block before the blind, but fear your Elohim. I am יהוה.


Render therefore to all what is due to them: tax to whom tax is due, toll to whom toll, fear to whom fear, respect to whom respect.


Do not rebuke an older man, but appeal to him as a father, younger ones as brothers,


Respect all, love the brotherhood, fear Elohim, respect the sovereign.
