And the fighting between the house of Sha’ul and the house of Dawiḏ was long drawn out. But Dawiḏ was going on and was strong, and the house of Sha’ul was going on and was weak.


And all the tribes of Yisra’ĕl came to Dawiḏ at Ḥeḇron and spoke, saying, “Look, we are your bone and your flesh.


And Dawiḏ inquired of יהוה, saying, “Do I go up against the Philistines? Do You give them into my hand?” And יהוה said to Dawiḏ, “Go up, for I shall certainly give the Philistines into your hand.”


“And it shall be, when you hear the sound of stepping in the tops of the mulberry trees, then act promptly, for then יהוה shall go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”


For at that time they came to Dawiḏ day by day to help him, until it was a great army, like an army of Elohim.


Blessed is he who has the Ěl of Ya‛aqoḇ for his help, Whose expectancy is in יהוה his Elohim,


He does send you help from the set-apart place, And does uphold you from Tsiyon!


The sovereign rejoices in Your strength, O יהוה; And how greatly he exults in Your deliverance!


Your hand reaches all Your enemies; Your right hand reaches those who hate You.


But chose the tribe of Yehuḏah, Mount Tsiyon, which He loved.


And He chose Dawiḏ His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds;


“But My trustworthiness And My loving-commitment are with him, And in My Name his horn is exalted.


Therefore יהוה does not rejoice over their young men, and has no compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is defiled and evil, and every mouth speaks foolishness. With all this His displeasure has not turned back, and His hand is still stretched out.


“But you, Bĕyth Leḥem Ephrathah, you who are little among the clans of Yehuḏah, out of you shall come forth to Me the One to become Ruler in Yisra’ĕl. And His comings forth are of old, from everlasting.”


“See, I am sending My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me. Then suddenly the Master you are seeking comes to His Hĕḵal, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. See, He is coming,” said יהוה of hosts.


“And these are the names of the men. From the tribe of Yehuḏah: Kalĕḇ son of Yephunneh.


But those enemies of mine who did not wish me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.’ ”


For He has to reign until He has put all enemies under His feet.


For it is perfectly clear that our Master arose from Yehuḏah, a tribe about which Mosheh never spoke of concerning priesthood,
