Now, brothers, we do not wish you to be ignorant concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you be sad as others who have no expectation.

And the sovereign was shaken, and went up to the room over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said this, “O my son Aḇshalom! My son, my son Aḇshalom, if only I had died instead of you! O Aḇshalom my son, my son!”


“Otherwise it shall be, when my master the sovereign rests with his fathers, that I and my son Shelomoh shall be considered sinners.”

And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I return there. יהוה has given, and יהוה has taken away. Blessed be the Name of יהוה.”


By his own evildoing the wrong is thrust down, But the righteous has a refuge in his death.


And He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are all the house of Yisra’ĕl. See, they say, ‘Our bones are dry, our expectancy has perished, and we ourselves have been cut off!’


and many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth wake up, some to everlasting life, and some to reproaches, everlasting abhorrence.


‘And do not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor put tattoo marks on you. I am יהוה.


except for his relatives who are nearest to him: for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother;


and the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the set-apart ones who had fallen asleep were raised,


Martha said to Him, “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

And I do not wish you to be unaware, brothers, that I often purposed to come to you, but was hindered until now, in order to have some fruit among you, as also among the other nations.


For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,


And concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not wish you to be ignorant.


After that He was seen by over five hundred brothers at one time, of whom the greater part remain till now, but some have fallen asleep.


For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, of our pressure which came to us in Asia, that we were weighed down, exceedingly, beyond ability, so that we despaired even of life.


that at that time you were without Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Yisra’ĕl and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no expectation and without Elohim in the world.


among whom also we all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, as also the rest.


For if we believe that יהושע died and rose again, so also Elohim shall bring with Him those who sleep in יהושע.


For this we say to you by the word of the Master, that we, the living who are left over at the coming of the Master shall in no way go before those who are asleep.


who died for us, so that we, whether awake or asleep, should live together with Him.


So, then, we should not sleep, as others do, but we should watch and be sober.


and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all continues as from the beginning of creation.”


But, beloved ones, let not this one matter be hidden from you: that with יהוה one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
