And the people of Israel were mustered and were provisioned and went against them. The people of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of goats, but the Syrians filled the country.


so that Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.


O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me;


The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.


They shall cut down her forest, declares the Lord, though it is impenetrable, because they are more numerous than locusts; they are without number.


And they came out with all their troops, a great horde, in number like the sand that is on the seashore, with very many horses and chariots.


For whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the East would come up against them.


Now all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the East came together, and they crossed the Jordan and encamped in the Valley of Jezreel.


For they would come up with their livestock and their tents; they would come like locusts in number—both they and their camels could not be counted—so that they laid waste the land as they came in.


When Gideon came, behold, a man was telling a dream to his comrade. And he said, “Behold, I dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian and came to the tent and struck it so that it fell and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat.”


Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor with their army, about 15,000 men, all who were left of all the army of the people of the East, for there had fallen 120,000 men who drew the sword.


And the Philistines mustered to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen and troops like the sand on the seashore in multitude. They came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of Beth-aven.


And David struck them down from twilight until the evening of the next day, and not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men, who mounted camels and fled.
