But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake.


Then the tribune came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound with two chains. He inquired who he was and what he had done.


So he took him and brought him to the tribune and said, “Paul the prisoner called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, as he has something to say to you.”


And Paul said, “Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am—except for these chains.”


But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.


If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.


I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away!—


Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one—I am talking like a madman—with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death.


But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.


Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you.


And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.


This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord,


So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory.


To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,


I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,


for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.


It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.


Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church,


I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.


At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—


May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains,


Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,


Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved fellow worker


Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends greetings to you,


yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you—I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus—


Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
