2 Chronicles 18:7 - English Standard Version 2016

7 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say so.”

He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”


Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of the Lord.


And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say so.”


And when Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” He answered, “What peace can there be, so long as the whorings and the sorceries of your mother Jezebel are so many?”


But Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, what my God says, that I will speak.”


But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not here another prophet of the Lord of whom we may inquire?”


Then the king of Israel summoned an officer and said, “Bring quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah.”


Affliction will slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.


because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked. For they drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me.


Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.


Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear.


Bloodthirsty men hate one who is blameless and seek the life of the upright.


Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.


who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions,


Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.”


Then the officials said to the king, “Let this man be put to death, for he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking the welfare of this people, but their harm.”


They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks the truth.


Should this be said, O house of Jacob? Has the Lord grown impatient? Are these his deeds? Do not my words do good to him who walks uprightly?


And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prison


“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man!


If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.


The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.


Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth?
